Furniture Assembly in Gainesville, FL

Gainesville is a moving town. Every summer, thousands of students, new faculty, residents at UF Health Shands and families relocating for jobs in the area arrive with boxes of flat-pack furniture and a short window to get settled before classes or work begin. Landlords furnishing units near campus need beds, desks and dressers built in dozens of apartments at once. Families moving into new homes in Newberry, Alachua and the west side want nurseries, home offices and patio sets ready quickly. And the heat and humidity in garages and storage units can make particleboard swell and hardware rust if boxes sit too long. A careful assembler makes the difference between furniture that wobbles in a month and furniture that lasts.

We build furniture following the manufacturer's instructions, but with the experience to catch the steps where things often go wrong: panels installed backwards, cam locks not fully tightened, drawer slides out of square. We check that frames are level and square, use the right tools so fasteners aren't stripped, and anchor dressers, bookcases and tall units to the wall with the included tip-over kits, which is especially important in homes with small children. We assemble beds, cribs, desks, shelving, dressers, outdoor furniture and exercise equipment, break down boxes, and haul off packaging if you'd like, so the room is ready to use when we leave.

What this covers

  • Beds, bunk beds and headboards
  • Dressers, nightstands and wardrobes
  • Desks, office chairs and bookcases
  • Cribs and nursery furniture
  • Patio and outdoor furniture
  • Exercise equipment
  • Wall anchoring with tip-over kits
  • Bulk assembly for furnished rentals

A note from around here: Furnished student units near Midtown and Archer Road, family move-ins in Haile Plantation, Tioga and the newer Newberry and Alachua subdivisions, and new faculty and staff settling in around the Millhopper keep our assembly calendar busiest from July through September.

How a furniture assembly visit usually goes

Check the Parts

We unpack everything, check parts against the list, and let you know right away if anything is missing or damaged in shipping.

Build It Right

We assemble following the instructions, keeping frames square, fasteners snug and drawers and doors properly aligned.

Place and Anchor

We set the piece where you want it, level it on uneven floors and anchor tall items to the wall.

Clean Up

We break down boxes, gather packaging and either leave it at the curb or haul it away, and leave the room ready to use.

Gainesville's humidity is worth thinking about when you're buying and building flat-pack furniture. Particleboard and MDF absorb moisture, and pieces that sit in a hot, damp garage or storage unit for weeks before they're built can swell at the edges and lose their grip on screws and cam locks. We recommend bringing boxes inside the air conditioning before assembly when possible, and we take care not to overtighten fasteners in swollen panels. For outdoor furniture on lanais and pool decks, we use any included rust-resistant hardware, check that glides and feet are installed so frames don't sit in standing water, and tighten everything firmly so pieces stay solid through summer storms. If you're moving into an apartment with tight stairwells, we can build large pieces in place rather than trying to carry them up assembled. Student move-in weeks in August and the start of spring semester in January are when furniture deliveries pile up across Gainesville, so booking a few days ahead helps. We also anchor tall dressers and bookcases to the wall in every home with small children, which is simple insurance for any household.

What shapes the price in Gainesville

Assembly cost depends on the number of pieces and how complex they are. A simple bookcase or nightstand goes quickly. Large wardrobes, beds with storage drawers, bunk beds, cribs and sectional sofas take much longer, and some exercise equipment involves heavy parts that need two people. Pieces that have to be built in a tight bedroom or carried up stairs in an apartment add time. Multiple pieces or multiple units in one visit lower the cost per item, which is why landlords and families moving in usually group everything together.

Neighbors often ask

Can you assemble furniture for a whole rental property?

Yes. Many Gainesville landlords furnish units for students, and we handle multi-unit orders: beds, desks, chairs, dressers and couches built in each unit, packaging broken down and hauled off, and everything checked before move-in. Tell us the move-in date, the number of units and what's being delivered, and we'll schedule the work to finish ahead of the August rush.

Do you anchor dressers and bookcases to the wall?

Yes, and we recommend it for any tall or heavy piece, especially with small children in the house. We use the anti-tip hardware that comes with the furniture or provide sturdier hardware when needed, fastening it into studs or using rated anchors in drywall and block walls.

Can you take apart and rebuild furniture when I move?

Yes. We can disassemble beds, desks and wardrobes at your old place, bag and label hardware so nothing goes missing, and rebuild them at your new home. Some flat-pack pieces don't handle being taken apart well, so we'll let you know if a piece is likely to be weaker after reassembly.

My new dresser wobbles. Can you fix it?

Usually. Wobbling is most often caused by a frame that isn't square, loose cam locks, a missing back panel nail, or uneven floors. We take it apart as far as needed, square it up, tighten everything, secure the back panel properly and level the feet, then anchor it to the wall for extra stability.
